I recently came home from a busy morning with the boys and was focused on getting in out of the heat and getting Kase down for a nap so I didn't pay much attention to two fire trucks I saw near the entrance of our neighborhood. I got in and started cooling, watching a little TV, checking e-mail and facebook where I saw mention of a fire in a nearby neighborhood. It didn't sound bad so I didn't think much more about it until I received a text from Ben inquiring if we were alright because he had heard about a fire near us. I assured him we were fine because it seemed to be away enough & that I hadn't even heard any sirens or anything.
As soon as I assured him all was well I went into the living room and happened to notice a helicopter, and tons of black smoke and HUGE flames! I couldn't believe my eyes! It was just out our back window not even a mile away! In fact, there were three helicopters circling the flames and constantly dropping water and dirt. I immediately got scared and went out the front only to discover every neighbor outside as well as our next door neighbors in full evacuation mode. I went across the street to check on my widowed neighbor, who was out on her front porch watching all the activity, and I noticed that the winds were blowing directly our direction. I decided that I should start gathering things together in case evacuation was needed. The fire took hours to get contained because the winds were so strong. I didn't get any pictures from when the flames were the strongest and highest because I was too busy getting things ready to take but here are a few I got later that day.
I am so grateful to God and all the fire departments that worked out in the terrible heat to contain the fire that burned 60 acres just behind our neighborhood! What a blessing!
The red flames are still visible about the roof tops hours into the fighting efforts.
Amazing!
